City of Southgate wins Urban Forestry Program Award - Sunday, October 25, 2009
The Northern Kentucky Urban Forestry Council recently awarded the City of Southgate its first annual Outstanding Forestry Program Award. This award is given to the local city or county administration, tree board or committee that has made outstanding accomplishments in completing urban forestry projects, provided exemplary tree care leadership, and made significant progress in meeting the goals of their local urban forestry program.

The Southgate Park and Tree Board is a committee of men and women appointed by the Mayor. The committee’s primary duties are to educate the public on the value of trees and gardening, administer to the flower gardens around the Southgate Community Center, award Green Thumb awards to those residents who perform an outstanding job in landscaping, coordinate the summer concerts, and award the best Holiday decorations in December.

Dr. Joyce F. Hamberg

Joyce serves as an inspiration to the Park and Tree Board with her hard work and innovative ideas. She is not afraid to get her hands dirty.

Joyce has 33 years experience in Kentucky Education. Since receiving her doctorate from Indiana University, she has specialized in School Administration. Joyce is Assistant Professor and Coordinator of the Master of Arts in Teaching Program at Thomas More College and on the Advisory Board for Recreation Trail Grants through the Governor's Office for Local Development.

She is married to Southgate Mayor Jim Hamberg and has two children and three granddaughters.

She is proud to live in Southgate and enjoys her work with the Park and Tree Board. She is well respected by the Board members and the Board has accomplished a lot through her leadership.

Chris Robisch

Chris serves as our liaison with City Council. He has helped the Park and Tree Board tremendously through his excellent people skills.
